DANB's CDA Exam Administered at the Ohio Dental Association Annual Session
The Ohio Dental Association (ODA) invited DANB to offer a special administration of the national Certified Dental Assistant (CDA) exam on Saturday, September 20, 2008 during the ODA Annual Session in Columbus, Ohio.
The DANB CDA exam is one of two avenues to meet state requirements to practice dental assisting in Ohio.
Ten qualified CDA applicants were accepted to sit for this session, on a first-come, first-served basis, filling all available slots. The ODA provided free transportation from the convention center to the testing center, located 14 miles from the convention site.
On Friday, September 19, the ODA offered an all-day refresher course entitled, “Ohio Dental Assisting Certification Test Review and Descriptions,” led by Paula Oliver, CDA, CDPMA, CODA. The course provided an overview of the content covered on exams meeting Ohio certification requirements and allowed attendees to earn 7 CE hours.

The RHS and ICE exams are components of the CDA exam. ICE is also a component of the COA exam. Individuals have the opportunity to take these components separately and earn separate certificates, which make an impressive demonstration of personal achievement.

DANB is a member of the National Organization for Competency Assurance (NOCA). The National Commission For Certifying Agencies (NCCA), a NOCA Commission with responsibility for accrediting credentialing programs, has evaluated DANB national certification exam programs, (CDA, COA, CDPMA and COMSA), including DANB component exams (RHS, ICE, GC and OA) and found DANB programs meet NCCA’s highest standards, thus helping to assure validity, reliability, and objectivity in the testing process. DANB Executive Director Cynthia C. Durley, MEd, MBA, completed a six-year term on the NCCA, (Chair in 2003 and 2004) and is currently NOCA’s President.
